It’s possible I shouldn’t be writing this today.
Why?
Because I have a sinus and throat illness and I cut my left pointer finger while wrestling to get raw chicken out of a plastic package so I could put said chicken in a crockpot. (I am okay, no stitches needed.)
But I am writing anyway.
Why?
Because I write every day, even if it’s just a single line, not even a sentence, but a line in my journal.
Of course, this isn’t my journal. But I wanted to stop by and give an update on Norwescon and give thanks to some individuals who have made my day today.
So, here goes. I am attempting brevity.
Norwescon
This event is going on full blast today, and I am not there because of said sinus headache and assorted health extras of that. I feel disappointed, but I can’t seem to “make myself better” in a short time frame, and in attempting to do “all the things,” I had my incident with the chicken.
I am attempting to see a silver lining in my illness:
- three unplanned days to rest, three unplanned days to pray, three unplanned days to... well, what can I do while sick? Umm, maybe write a story about mafia fairies that has nothing to do with anything I have ever written? Or work on a project that is in draft form? (Revision is too much for a tired brain.)
Another thing I can do is give thanks to these lovely people:
Milo James Fowler, who invited me to join Simon Kewin’s curated scifi storybundlle, the Galactic Mystery Bundle, with nearly 400 readers picking up the entire bundle. Plus, I want to thank Simon Kewin for including me, Jason Chen for organizing everything, and all the authors involved who helped promote the bundle.
All my new subscribers from the Clean Fantasy and Scifi Bookfunnel. Thank you!
Dear friends at church who inspired me with their podcasts this week.
Friends who invited me to a movie on Tuesday night - even though I couldn’t go due to said Sinus ick, I am thankful for the invite.
And Jen Chandler, who wrote
which inspired me to dusty off my musty muse and try something a little different, although I think her post was mainly to encourage all of us to write, not necessarily to write about mafia fairies.
Bonus ramblings about a story idea:
Can you imagine the wild hunt in Brooklyn or Seattle in dapper suits with sinister curses only stopped by the kindness of a stranger or the muse of music? (This is where my brain goes when I’m tired. It doesn’t revise well. Grammar might be questionable, but the weird creativity survives, although that also caused me to have a nightmare about bees, so it’s not all good.)
If you celebrate Easter, remember, He is Risen! Because he loves each and every one of us enough to die for our sins and to grant us new life through his resurrection.
Happy Easter. Happy Writing. Remember, you can do this, one word at a time.
First of all, I hope you're feeling better and the nasty sinus gunk has left.
Secondly, you are a QUEEN. Thank you for mentioning that little post. It was a self pep talk that I just knew needed to go into the world at large!
Third, and most important, WRITE THAT MAFIA FAIRY STORY!!!!
That is all <3
