I adore maps in books. I have a Middle Earth map my family gifted me on the wall of my office.
I also have hand-drawn maps of Bloo Moose and Phail. I'd be so lost without them. They're really (REALLY) rough sketches but they're vital for me to know where everything is. I also have a story bible with a spreadsheet page for setting details, but the maps are more fun :)

I agree maps are more fun, even if my drawing skills aren't great. I find them fun to admire, and I like having them for my writing.
